The Nintendo Direct 2/17/2021 in a nutshell

On Tuesday, Nintendo announced their first full Direct since September 4th, 2019, and the internet was beyond thrilled considering the time gap between shows. In this Direct, Nintendo was keen on delivering news regarding games in the first half of this year with some surprises for next year and information regarding the first new Super Smash Bro Ultimate characters this year.

All Announcement’s of the Direct is as follows:

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Characters Pyra and Mythra (Who you can change between mid-match) with a variety of different characters from the cast releasing in march (no official date.)
  • Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout releasing this summer.
  • Outer Wilds is releasing this summer.
  • 2 Famicom Detective Club games, The Missing Heir and The Girl Who Stands Behind, releasing May 14th.*
  • Samurai Warriors 5 is releasing this summer.
  • Legend of Mana Remastered releasing June 24th.*
  • Monster Hunter Rise is releasing on March 26th* alongside a custom edition Nintendo Switch Console (Which includes a digital download of the game deluxe edition DLC) for $369.99 and Pro Controller for $74.99. Preorders are not available at this time.
  • MarioGolf SuperRush is releasing June 25th.*
  • Tales from the Borderlands is releasing on March 24th.*
  • Capcom Arcade Stadium is available on the Eshop right now!
  • Stubbs the Zombie: in Rebel Without a Pulse releasing March 16th.*
  • No More Heroes 3 is releasing on August 27th.*
  • Neon White is releasing this winter.
  • DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power releasing June 4th.*
  • Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville Complete Edition releasing March 19th.*
  • Miitopia is releasing on May 21st.*
  • A free Super Mario game update for Animal Crossing New Horizons releasing February 25th.*
  • Project Triangle Strategy: created by the same team as 2018’s Octopath Travelerreleasing in 2022 with a demo available on the Eshop right now!
  • Star Wars Hunters is coming this year with no specific release date.
  • Knockout City is releasing on May 21st.*
  • World’s End Club releasing May 28th.*
  • A Physical edition of recently released Hades, including a PC download for the soundtrack, and 32 paged colored compendium of character art on March 19th.*
  • Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection including Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razers Edge releasing June 10th.*
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass for $19.99, releasing on May 28th* with two waves of DLC expected in June and November of this year.
  • Bravely Default 2 releasing February 26th* with a free demo available on the Eshop right now!
  • Ghost’N Goblins Resurrection is releasing on February 25th.*
  • SaGa Frontier Remastered releasing May 15th.*
  • Apex Legends is releasing on March 9th.*
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Remaster releasing alongside a custom set of Nintendo Joycons on July 16th.*
  • Splatoon 3 releasing in 2022.

All in all, this Nintendo Direct had a bit of something for all age demographics and genres. Nintendo stated on February 16th that this direct was only for games in the first half of this year despite some games releasing next year or in the second half of this one. There is currently no news on if we’ll get a mini direct covering more games this year or not.

    Three games stand out to me. Mario Golf, Skyward Sword, and Project Triangle Strategy.
